Vampires vs. the Bronx (2020) Netfix Movie

The story:
A group of young friends from the Bronx fight to save their neighborhood from gentrification...and vampires.
Director: Osmany Rodriguez (as Oz Rodriguez)

Stars: Jaden Michael, Gerald Jones III, Gregory Diaz IV

My thoughts:

Kid vampire slayers form the Bronx! This movie reminds me of movies like The Goonies, Attack the Block, Do the Right Thing and The Lost Boys. It’s not the best vampire movie but it has a strong start and I love the heart and culture on display. This movie had an interesting twist on gentrification (the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle-class taste) that I hadn’t seen done in this way before. The cast is really good but the stand out for me was The Kid Mero (from Desus & Mero fame) and there's was a surprise feature that I had to do a double take on!

The movie falls kinda short in the way many other vampire movies do nowadays, how to get rid of "all these damn vampires" but other than that it was a pretty fun watch and it was very cool to see such young and diverse leads. Check it out if your looking for something light and fun for the Halloween season. Also its pretty family appropriate (no real gore, blood or bad language.)
